Sanitiser will rid your baby's nappies of any bugs from the poo and wee - more than by simply washing in the machine. There are 2 common methods to sanitiser your baby's nappies:
- Soaking method: store the used nappy in a laundry mesh inside a lidded bucket. 3/4 fill with water and add either a scoop of powdered sanitiser or 2-3 drops of tea tree oil. The water will need changing every 24 hours. When sufficient nappies are ready to be washed the nappies can be lifted out of the bucket with the laundry mesh to save individually lifting each nappy out! Some parents place the mash of dripping nappies over the bath plug hole to drain before moving to the washing machine. Alternatively a towel or similar can be placed under the machine door to catch any drips.
- Dry method: the most popular method as the nappies are stored dry in a laundry mesh inside the lidded nappy bucket. When they are in the washing machine simply add a scoop of sanitiser to your usual non-bio detergent and press go.
Laundry bags are used inside the nappy bucket to make moving of the used nappies into the washing machine so much cleaner and easier. nappies can either be left inside this mesh bag whilst in the machine but I preferred to turn the bag inside to ensure all of the nappies and washable wipes were free for a good wash, leaving the mesh in the machine for a freshen up.
Waterproof bags are the alternative to throw away nappy sacks. they have a drawstring top to keep the nappy secure in the changing bag or on your baby's peg at nusery ready to be emptied when you get back home.
